“The source for documentation.”Welcome! This is the home of DocBook, an XML vocabulary ideally suited to computer hardware and software documentation, though it is by no means limited to those domains.
DocBook has been under continuous development since the mid 90’s. This website has existed about that long. But after several years of neglect, in November, 2025, Norm rewrote it. (For historical interest, the previous version is archived.)
Here, you’ll find links to documentation about DocBook, the schemas, and stylesheets for transforming it into HTML and paged media.
For the past 25 years or so, DocBook development has been done under the aegis of OASIS. That ended with the closure of the DocBook Technical Committee in September, 2024.
